Abstract

The rapid adoption of digital technologies in higher education has increased the need to develop effective approaches for improving student engagement in online learning. This study aims to explore students' experiences of integrating Artificial Intelligence and gamification in online learning at a public university in Indonesia and identify factors influencing learning engagement. A qualitative case study approach was employed through interviews and thematic analysis of students' learning experiences. The findings reveal that Artificial Intelligence enhances engagement through personalized support, adaptive feedback, and learning autonomy, while gamification promotes motivation and active participation. The integration of both technologies creates interactive learning experiences that strengthen cognitive, behavioral, and emotional engagement. The study contributes practical insights for higher education institutions in designing student centered digital learning environments and highlights the importance of aligning technological innovation with meaningful pedagogical strategies.
